How to get enough vitamin D

Concerned you aren't getting enough vitamin D? Whether it's through food, supplements, or a little extra sun exposure, make sure to give your body the boost it requires:

  • Sun Exposure is the most natural and effective way to get VitaminD.  20-30 minutes of sunlight is recommended per day.  The earlier in the morning you expose your skin to sunlight, the more effective it will be.
  • Diet supports vitamin D intake.  Some foods are naturally higher in vitamin D than others.  These include oily fish, red meat, liver and egg yolk.
  • Supplements taken daily will help to tied you over during the darker autumn / winter months.  Some people find that taking vitamin D supplements all year round massively benefits their physical and mental wellbeing. 
  • Fortified Foods such as milk, yoghurt and orange juice often contain vitamin D, always check the label.

Try to get out the house for half an hour between 8 am - 12 pm.  If you can drag yourself out of bed early enough to see the sunrise, you will feel the optimal benefits.
