4 TIPS TO AVOID DRY WINTER SKIN

Winter weather can be tough on your skin, leading to dryness, flakiness, and irritation.  Shaving and growing facial hair already lead to dry skin in men, many men do find they suffer from dry skin when the weather changes in winter.   To help you keep your skin healthy and hydrated during the colder months, here are four tips to avoid dry skin this winter:

  1. Moisturize regularly.  It's important to moisturize your skin regularly to help lock in moisture and prevent dryness. Choose a moisturizer that is appropriate for your skin type, and apply it immediately after cleansing and patting your skin dry.
  2. Use a humidifier.  Dry air can strip your skin of its natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation.  One way to combat this is to use a humidifier, which can help add moisture back into the air and keep your skin hydrated.
  3. Take shorter showers and baths. While it may be tempting to take long, hot showers or baths to warm up during the winter, doing so can strip your skin of its natural oils and lead to dryness.  Whilst hot, steamy showers can help to steam those pores, cold or lukewarm showers actually help your skin retain its natural oils.  To help prevent dry skin, try to take shorter showers and baths, and use lukewarm water instead of hot water.
  4. Protect your skin from the elements. Cold, windy weather can be harsh on your skin, so it's important to protect it when you're outside.  Wear a scarf to cover your face and a hat to protect your scalp, and use a moisturizing cream or balm on your hands and face to help keep your skin hydrated.

By following these tips, you can help avoid irritation and keep your skin hydrated this winter, no matter how cold it gets outside.
